Content Management
Categories / Pages
To view your website categories, click Website->Categories from the main menu. Static pages on your website are created using categories. Each category in Pearl can contain content (the category description), products or both. If a category contains subcategories, you can choose to show these in a table format or in a list format. Once you are in the categories edit screen, you can expand a category to show it’s subcategories by clicking on a yellow folder. Edit a category by clicking the pencil icon.
Any category can be viewed online if it’s direct URL is typed. To get a category to appear in the menu, make sure it is active (click the green icon when on the categories screen).
Categories can be assigned different templates to enable you to show different menus or layouts depending on where the use is within your site. The order in which categories appear in a list or menu is defined by the “sort order”. This is a number entered when editing or creating a new category.
Categories can be defined so that they are only accessible when a user is logged in.
Categories should not contain further subcategories as well as products (products should only be placed in categories that have no further subcategories).
Home page
The page displayed when a visitor first arrives at your website URL is defined by setting the sort order to “–1”.
Contact pages
Pearl will allow you to set up customised contact forms and registration forms using the Website->Contact Pages screen. The two minimum requirements are a “contact page” and a “registration page”; these have already been set up for you.
To edit your contact pages see Website->Contact pages.
Products
Products are created in Pearl via Products->Create New and will be displayed on the website only if they are “web enabled”.
Complex products are grouped together so that the sisters will appear in a drop down menu for the user to choose. Bundles appear as a normal product, but the stock of each sub product is checked to define the bundle availability.
For more information on products please read the Products information, and experiment with the demo website at http://demo.thisispearl.com.
Products Images
Product images should be named according to the product SKU. If a product has multiple images, then add underscore and an increment (SKU_1.jpg, SKU_2.jpg ...) The naming protocol is optional, but if you have a large product database, image management is made much easier if the image files can be batch processed.
