E-commerce : setting up

Pearl has powerful e-commerce capabilities to allow you to sell products online, 24 hours a day, days a week.

Setting Up Your Store

Creating a live website will involve the following steps;

  1. Define your categories
  2. Add your products
  3. Design your template files
  4. Update your stylesheet(s)
  5. Edit your contact page
  6. Edit your registration page
  7. Add some information regarding your shipping and conditions of sale
  8. Define your payment methods
  9. Define your shipping options
  10. Start selling!

Terms and Conditions

Your terms and conditions should be entered into a category (page). To link to this page from the menu, set the category “active” and edit the sort order so that it appears in the right place on your menu. For example, to make the “Terms & Conditions” appear at the very bottom of your menu you could enter a sort order of “999”.
If you do not want the T&Cs to be visible in your main menu, you can set the category to be inactive and link to the category directly using an html link. If the category ID is 234 you would link to :
http://www.yourwebsite.com/index.php?page=content&cPath=234 or http://www.yourwebsite.com/terms-and-conditions-c-234.html (the “-c-234” is important)

Secure Connection (SSL)

To take credit card details directly on your website (rather than using a separate page such as SECPay or Protx) you should purchase a Thawte Certificate to enable a secure connection to the server.

Pearl will arrange all the necessary purchasing, installation and testing for a fee of £180+VAT (this will last for two years from the date of installation).
